Now That It Passed We’re Finding Out
Last week, Ways and Means Oversight Subcommittee Chairman Charles Boustany (Republican from Louisiana) wrote a letter to HHS Secretary Sebelius inquiring about a voter registration question on the form individuals must submit to access Obamacare health insurance subsidies.
Boustany found this question — “Would you like to register to vote?” — in the draft “List of Questions in the Online Application to Support Eligibility Determinations for Enrollment.” He noted that the Affordable Care Act (ACA) does not mention voter registration.
“While the health care law requires that government agencies collect vast information about Americans’ personal lives, it does not give your department an interest in whether individual Americans choose to vote,” wrote Boustany.
Make no mistake. Now that it’s passed, we’re finding out that Obamacare is everything we feared, and more. We support Rep. Boustany’s efforts. Why would the government want to link voter registration with government-mandated, government-provided healthcare? Why, indeed?
