AG Dustin McDaniel now says the Clarksville School District isn’t a “private business that can provide armed security,” rendering Clarksville’s plan stopped cold. The district has already spent about $70,000 to start putting over 20 teachers and staff through over 53 hours of training.

It was like a bombshell to us, you know?  It really took the wind out of our sails.

says Clarksville School Superintendent David Hopkins.  He added the school will stop the program, but will seek legal counsel moving forward.

Wilkins sought not just an opinion on the legality of the school’s actions, but also whether those staff and teachers involved could be prosecuted and whether schools could have their public funding reduced by the money the school would earn when acting “as a security company rather than a school district”.

It seems it’s not just the Legislature who knows not much about our state’s laws, again proving a point there are too many of ’em.  We can’t properly enforce all the laws now on the books, and we never, ever consider what new laws will bring in unintended consequences.

And all this is yet another reason why we taxpaying voters must keep a close eye on all those new laws being made — as well as the lawmakers making them.
