Paired Votes on House Floor
Arkansas State Representative Tommy Wren (D-62) yelled at other legislators about not being able to pair his vote after most people had left the House Gallery following yet another failed vote on funding for the Private Option (on Thursday, February 20).
A paired vote is where one legislator for a bill and another legislator against a bill cast their votes in absentee before they leave the session.
The pairing maneuver, a written agreement between 2 members on opposite sides agree not to vote on the question if one or both are absent with leave, can allow the absent member to influence the outcome of the vote.
Rep. Wren has been a solid yes vote for the Arkansas Obamacare Option.
