Arkansas GOP Should Embrace Tea Party Grassroots ActivistsAs you know by now, Arkansas Republicans on Tuesday defeated every Democrat running for Congress and statewide constitutional offices, as well as picking up 2 more state Senate seats and gaining a 64-seat state House majority.

Going into Tuesday’s elections, even though some statewide grassroots activists displayed a listless attitude and negative opinion of lawmakers, many remained dedicated to helping elect GOP candidates via door-to-door advocacy and volunteering.  That effort clearly paid off handsomely, as it no doubt did in both 2010 and 2012, to get Republicans elected.

Tuesday leaves the Republicans in a good position (on top), but also brings huge pressure to perform.  Now the Republican party must not only govern, but put the state’s economy back on track (after Medicaid expansion), learn to run state government from a majority position, and get its national nominee elected as President in 2016 to continue its work.

Now more than ever the GOP needs all of its base (including conservative activists) to carry this overwhelming conservative tide forward through the 2016 election cycle.

Given these circumstances, why wouldn’t Tuesday’s GOP sweep provide a great opportunity for the GOP to engage and embrace grassroots activists here in Arkansas?

Surely the GOP wants all the help it can get!  It’s time for Arkansas Republicans to begin to heal the conservative rift in our state and embrace their biggest ignored constituency — a citizen group that aligns itself almost totally with Republican principles and values and has successfully pledged its effort time and again to elect Republican candidates in Arkansas.

The GOP keeps telling us they’re the party of the “big tent;” today Ed Bethune even said the “Republican door is open.”  The GOP needs us; we’re already aligned on values.

Harnessing grassroots volunteer activism will absolutely ensure another perhaps more historic GOP win in 2016.

If Arkansas Republicans still feel the need to convert more swing voters (and they should), then let’s use the combined base of grassroots tea party constitutionalists and all the state’s Republicans to help tell the entire state about our conservative message of a free government that equips each of us to be prosperous and makes our country strong.
