rubio-american-dreamsMarco Rubio of Florida is another lawmaker being closely watched in the run-up to the 2016 presidential race.  Rubio raised conservatives’ ire when he last worked in Congress on “comprehensive immigration reform” that included the famed (but failed) “path to citizenship.”

But in his new book “American Dreams” Rubio “offers a new, pared-down, conservative-friendly approach” to our immigration problem, Fox News’ Chris Stirewalt asserts, citing these key points Rubio now makes:

♦  The system is broken—and Americans are feeling “taken advantage of” by illegal immigrants.
♦  Illegal immigration must be stemmed before the system can be reformed.
♦  The stalemate won’t be resolved with a comprehensive immigration bill.
♦  A piecemeal approach is needed to include border security, interior enforcement, and new visa policies.
♦  A plan to handle the “dilemma” of twelve million illegal immigrants who are already here  (Hint:  There’s no mention of a “path to citizenship.”)
♦  Opponents will emerge from both sides, but there’s a “sweet spot” to be found.
