America as Sanctuary
It seems these days if you are of a certain political persuasion or have certain political beliefs you can flaunt Federal law with no thought to consequences. It seems these days if you are of a certain political persuasion or have certain political beliefs you can flaunt Federal law with no thought to consequences. Of course we’re talking about liberal Democrats here. No one else seems to be “connected” enough to get away with it.
Why is that? Well, to start with, Democrats will not drop the hammer on any of their own — unlike Republicans. To a Democrat, if you’re “one of us,” anything you do is okay.
So let’s steal a page from their playbook. In fact, let’s steal several.
Don’t like the Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage or Obamacare? Then declare your town, city, county, or state a Gay Marriage Sanctuary Zone.
Same goes for Obamacare or any other Federal law you don’t like. The precedent is San Francisco or any of the Immigration Sanctuary Zones that have been set up to flaunt Federal Law. Sauce for the goose in our opinion.
The Federal government cannot selectively enforce laws — elected officials take an oath to protect and defend the Constitution, and those in the executive branch are also charged to enforce the law. When they don’t follow one Federal law in one case, they effectively establish precedent in another.
Seems logical doesn’t it? Too bad it’s not true. The dirty little secret in the whole sanctuary myth is that, without Federal “permission,” sanctuary will not work.
Although it looks like San Francisco and Phoenix are out on the edge flaunting Federal law to allow illegal immigrants protection against the feds, it’s just more of the lie of the Obama administration. The Obama administration ALLOWS sanctuary cities, they ALLOW marijuana legalization, they ALLOW a selected group of their “friends” to do what they want, whether legal or not.
And although it’s happening under Obama, without the Congress and Supreme Court being complicit it could not happen. If Congress felt strongly enough, they could pass laws that would force compliance and the Supreme Court would back them up when challenged.
Senator Tom Cotton proposed a law that would cut federal funding to any entity that violates or allows violation of immigration laws. If that law passes, we’ll see an immediate reduction in sanctuary locations — those governments now flaunting Federal law will start enforcing the law once they lose their federal money. Putting consequences in place provides the best impetus to compliance.
With no intent to offend, if you believe anything a politician says without proof, you are naïve at best. The news is full of outraged politicians arguing for or against the current hot button issue, but do they ever do anything except talk and play politics? Usually not.
We need men and women of action. We need people who tell us what they will do and then do it. No excuses, no “go along to get along.” No so-called “compromise” when the other side sets up a false argument and then gives up nothing.
We need real conservatives who will vote as conservatives. Then sanctuary can be the whole USA, as it was in the past (even though still imperfect, as we are only human). Remember, the original meaning was “a sacred place” — and the United States was, is, and can be again a sacred place to those who love freedom.
