Rex Nelson, formerly a weekly columnist with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, is taking a full-time Senior Editor position; his columns will now appear on Sunday, Wednesday and Saturday each week in the state newspaper.

Nelson is the current chairman of the Little Rock Political Animals Club, and was also former Gov. Mike Huckabee’s director of policy and communications, as well as his campaign manager. He served in the Bush administration in 2005, promoting economic development, and is also the play-by-play announcer for the football program at Oachita Baptist University, his alma mater.

Nelson had formerly worked at the Dem-Gaz as both a report and an editor — and has left his position as senior VP and director of corporate communications at Simmons First National Corp to go full-time with the paper. He was an editor of Arkansas Business and had also served as the DC bureau chief for the Dem-Gaz.
